"THE HISTORY OF TROJAN RECORDS 1968-1971" Vol 1

"THE HISTORY OF TROJAN RECORDS 1968-1971" Vol 1:
The first of a two-volume overview, History of Trojan Records, Vol. 1: 1968-1971 takes in the golden days of the '60s, when ska, rocksteady, and early reggae dominated the dancehalls. Including 60 tracks spread over two discs, the mix covers early ska instrumentals (Tommy McCook & the Skatalites' "Silver Dollar"), harmony cuts (the Paragons' "The Tide Is High"), some vintage DJ stylings (King Stitt's "Fire Corner"), and a bit of pre-Rasta Marley ("Sun Is Shining"). And there's much more in the way of classics here, plus the fine production work of such island legends as Clement Dodd, Duke Reid, Joe Gibbs, and Lee "Scratch" Perry. One of the best releases for those in need of a good reggae primer. (Allmusic)
